Beginner’s Path

The forest is most dangerous when you are unprepared. Following this progression path ensures you have the right tools and protection before the difficulty spikes on Night 10.

Night 1: The Panic Phase

Goal: Light and warmth.

  • The 2-Minute Scramble: As soon as you spawn, punch small trees to gather 15 Wood. Locate 3 Scrap Metal from trash piles.
  • Place the Campfire: Do not wander. Pick a spot near a large rock (to protect your back) and light your fire.
  • Stay in the Light: On Night 1, your only job is to stay inside the yellow circle. Stepping into the dark for more than 5 seconds will spawn “Shadow Crawlers.”

Night 2-3: The Resource Phase

Goal: Tool efficiency and food security.

  • Craft the Stone Axe: Use 5 Wood and 2 Stones. This doubles your wood-chopping speed.
  • Upgrade to Level 2 Fire: Add 15 Wood to your campfire. This pushes the darkness further back.
  • Harvest Berries: Look for red bushes. Only eat them when your hunger is below 30% to avoid wasting resources.
  • The First Shelter: Build a simple 1×1 wooden box with a roof. This is your only protection against The Owl, which begins hunting on Night 3.

Night 4-5: The Farming Phase

Goal: Sustainable food (Corn).

  • The Farm Plot: Spend 10 Wood to craft a Farm Plot. Place it right next to your fire.
  • The Corn Gamble: Wait for the plot to grow. If it yields Corn, save it to create Corn Soup later. If it’s a Pumpkin, eat it for immediate health.
  • Craft a Spear: Use wood and scrap. The spear allows you to fight “Cultists” from a safe distance without taking damage.

Night 6-7: The Economic Phase

Goal: Earning Diamonds.

  • The Dawn Meeting: At 6:00 AM, look for the Trader NPC near the center of the map.
  • Trade Pelts: Sell any Wolf or Bear skins you collected during the night raids.
  • Save for Cyborg: Do not spend diamonds on temporary gear. Save every diamond until you have enough to unlock the Cyborg Class (Night Vision).

Pro-Tips for New Arrivals

  • Don’t Run: If you hear heavy breathing, it’s The Deer. If you run, it triggers a chase. Stand still and look at the ground.
  • Dry Your Wood: If you find “Blue Wood” near the river, drop it near your fire for 30 seconds before burning it for a 3x fuel bonus.
  • Sound is Survival: Turn your volume up. Every entity in 99 Nights makes a specific sound (rustling, clicking, or whispering) before it attacks.
