In 99 Nights, bosses are not just combat encounters; they are puzzles. Some require you to stay perfectly still, while others require a specific set of keys to even find. Defeating them provides elite materials like Ancient Scales and Forest Fragments.
1. The Deer (The Stalker)
The Deer is the first major threat most players encounter. It is unique because it is both a threat and an objective.
- Standard Counter (The Stare): If it spawns at night, an eye meter will appear. Do not move and do not look at it. Look directly at the ground. If you trigger it, it will charge, dealing 50+ damage.
- The “Saving the Deer” Event:
- Heal: Find the Deer lying down and apply 2 Bandages to its glowing red wounds (leg and antler).
- Feed: Feed it 5-6 Raw Wolf Meat.
- Defend: After feeding, two Alpha Werewolves will attack. Kill them while staying near the campfire to heal.
- Reward: You can enter the “Bat Cave” to find a Golden Chest and Pink Fur (high-tier fuel).
2. The Owl (The Sky Hunter)
The Owl appears after Night 6 or during Blizzards. It is faster and more aggressive than the Deer.
- Detection: Similar to the Deer, it has an “eye meter.” If you move while the Owl is near, it will swoop down and strike. Standing under a roof or large tree prevents its dive attack.
- The “Bird Watcher” Trade:
- If you stand perfectly still while it lands near you, it will eventually fly away and drop an Owl Feather.
- Take these feathers to the Bird Watcher NPC.
- Reward: 10 Feathers fills the research bar, rewarding you with Fuel Canisters and Forest Gym Fragments.
3. The Frog King (The Secret Boss)
Added in the “Frog Invasion” update, this boss is hidden in a secret location.
- How to Find:
- Collect 8 Frog Keys by killing Blue Frogs or fishing at “Key Icon” spots in lakes.
- Locate the Whirlpool in the main pond after Day 3.
- Jump in and use the keys to unlock the sewer door.
- The Fight:
- The Frog King has high health and a poison attack. Use the Crossbow or Steel Spear to maintain distance.
- Phase 2: Once killed, he splits into dozens of smaller purple/blue frogs. You must kill all of them or escape to claim the loot.
- Reward: The Poison Armor, Poison Spear, and the Beastmaster Badge.

General Boss Tactics
- Audio Cues: Every boss has a unique sound. The Owl “shrieks,” while the Deer causes the forest’s ambient noise to go silent before it appears.
- Campfire Safety: If a boss fight is going poorly, retreat to a Level 4 Campfire. The intense light weakens most entities and provides you with a health regeneration buff.
- Ammo Management: Never initiate a boss fight without at least 30 Arrows/Bolts. Melee is high-risk against the Frog King and Alpha Wolves.
