The Bat is one of the three secondary antagonists in 99 Nights in the Forest, alongside The Owl and The Ram. It was introduced in the The Deer Is Hurt Part II update.

Appearance

The Bat is a large, light-purple, semi-anthropomorphic bat with white, clouded eyes and grey pupils. Its jaw is stretched open like the other creatures, but its eyes differ from theirs, being grey instead of black.

The Bat

Behavior

Even though The Bat is blind, it can still attack the player similarly to The Owl. When it emits a loud, piercing screech, it summons Shadow Cultists to attack. Players must hide behind a wall during the screech; otherwise, their ears will ring, the screen will blur briefly, and they will take damage.

Trivia

  • The Bat is the first monster entity shown attacking another monster, which is The Deer.
  • It is stronger than The Deer in its normal state, but not when The Deer is hungry, as depicted in cutscenes.
  • It is currently the only monster that can appear even when two monsters are already present.
  • The Bat is unique as the only blind entity and the only one that does not chase the player upon detection.
  • It is the only Monster-type entity that cannot be stunned with the Flashlight.
  • It is the only entity that attacks exclusively within a specific area.
  • The Bat is the only entity without arms, reflecting how real bats have wings instead of arms.
  • It is the fifth invincible entity, after The Deer, The Owl, The Ram, and Kiwi.
  • The Bat is the first monster entity without a jumpscare.
  • Although cutscenes show it leaving its cave to attack The Deer, it cannot leave the cave during gameplay.
  • The Bat is the second flying entity in the game, preceded by The Owl.
