The Cat has woken up

The Cat is the fourth secondary antagonist introduced in the 2025 Roblox survival game, 99 Nights in the Forest. Serving as a hostile nighttime entity, it joins the ranks of other terrifying creatures such as The Owl, The Ram, and The Bat. As an enigmatic and highly aggressive feline predator, its primary goal is to stalk and eliminate players who are caught unprepared in the wilderness.

Appearance

Visually, The Cat is an incredibly large and tall creature that bears a strong resemblance to a black panther. Despite its dark coat, it features light black stripes along its tail, paws, and giant feet. The entity possesses an unnaturally large head dominated by big ears with pink inner ears, white whiskers, a small pink nose, and an outstretched jaw. Its most striking features are its massive white eyes with sharp black pupils, which stare down players in the dark. It also sports pink paws attached to its oversized feet.

Awakening and Spawning Mechanics

The Cat is intrinsically tied to the game’s biome system. It has a 1/3 chance of spawning exclusively when the Jungle Biome is present. It will not spawn in the Snow Biome, where it is replaced by The Owl, or the Volcanic Biome, where it is replaced by The Ram.

When a night begins and the biome conditions are met, players may experience a short, ominous cutscene around Day 3 or Day 4. This cinematic shows the shadow of The Cat’s back as it sharpens its claws, signaling its arrival in the jungle. Following the cutscene, a server-wide message will appear stating, “The Cat has woken up”. Notably, when The Cat is active, The Deer will not spawn for that night unless a Cultist Attack event occurs simultaneously.

Behavior and Encounters

Once spawned, The Cat relies on its stalking and dash abilities to hunt down players. Its behavior is somewhat similar to The Ram, but with a highly vertical twist: The Cat will aggressively lunge, attempting to jump and land directly in front of the player.

When The Cat prepares to leap, a red exclamation mark will appear over its head, and a red marker will highlight the ground where it intends to land. If a player is caught inside this drop zone when the entity lands, they will take severe damage from a violent scratching attack. If the attack proves fatal, players will be met with a jumpscare before being eliminated. While early in-game rumors and lore suggested that The Cat could be stunned with a flashlight like other entities, survival experts have discovered that flashlights and torchlights are actually completely ineffective against this specific monster, making it an incredibly formidable foe.

Survival Strategies

Because traditional stunning methods do not work, survival relies entirely on evasion and base fortification. Players are advised to stay near the campfire and build defensive structures such as basic walls or poison walls. However, players must remain vigilant, as The Cat has the ability to jump onto elevated structures, rendering simple high-ground defenses completely useless. The most effective strategy is to keep moving, maintain distance, and immediately dodge out of the red landing zones whenever the creature initiates its dash attack.
