Tool Guide

Tools are used to extract resources from the environment. Each tool has a specific Tier (Stone, Iron, Steel) that determines its speed and what materials it can harvest. Using the wrong tool (e.g., an Axe on a Stone) will drastically reduce its Durability and yield 0 resources.

Gathering Tools Table

The following data represents the real harvesting rates for each tool type.

Specialized Survival Tools

These items are essential for advanced gameplay and base maintenance.

  • The Fishing Rod:
    • How to get: Craft with 3 Wood + 2 Rope (Found in trash piles).
    • Real Data: Fishing at the river during “Dawn” (5:00 AM – 7:00 AM) has a 15% higher chance of catching Rare Fish which restore 40% Hunger.
  • The Repair Hammer:
    • Function: Restores the HP of walls and doors.
    • Trick: One “Swing” of the hammer restores 50 Structure HP at the cost of 1 Wood. It is much cheaper to repair a wall than to let it break and rebuild it.
  • The Flashlight:
    • Battery Life: 120 Seconds (2 minutes).
    • Pro Tip: If you play as the Cyborg, you don’t need this. Otherwise, keep a spare Battery (1 Scrap + 1 Iron) in your inventory at all times.

Efficiency Multipliers

Your “Harvesting Speed” can be boosted by external factors:

  1. Lumberjack Class: Grants a 2x Multiplier to all Wood gathering.
  2. Adrenaline Shot: Increases tool swing speed by 25% for 30 seconds.
  3. The Rain Debuff: Harvesting stone during rain is 20% slower due to “slippery surfaces” (hidden game mechanic).

The “Tool Swap” Strategy

To maximize your inventory space and time, follow this “Real Data” meta:

  • Early Game: Only carry a Stone Axe. Use it for both wood and defense until Night 3.
  • Mid Game: Upgrade to Iron Pickaxe first. Iron is required for the Furnace, which unlocks the rest of the game.
  • Late Game: Focus on Steel Tools. Steel tools have a “cleave” effect, meaning one swing can hit two trees if they are close enough together.

Tool Upgrades (Refinery)

Once you have a Refinery, you can apply “Enchantments” to your Steel tools using Diamonds:

  • Efficiency I: +10% Harvest Speed (Cost: 50 Diamonds).
  • Unbreaking I: +20% Durability (Cost: 75 Diamonds).
  • Fortune I: 10% chance to drop 2x resources (Cost: 150 Diamonds).
