The Campfire is the central element of the game, serving as your main source of safety and progression. During the night, it acts as a crucial defense mechanism, keeping dangerous creatures like The Deer away, as they fear the light it emits. Upgrading the Campfire expands your playable area and safe zone, unlocking new regions of the map—making it vital for both survival and advancement.
The Campfire also provides healing benefits—players recover health gradually, with faster regeneration when standing near it.
Usage
The Campfire constantly consumes fuel but provides a safe zone that repels The Deer, the game’s main antagonist. Staying within its radius grants a significant health regeneration boost, illuminates the surroundings, and allows cooking food.
To progress through levels, players must add fuel—such as Logs, Coal, Fuel Canisters, or Biofuel. However, since the fire is always burning, it must be maintained continuously to stay active.
There are 6 Campfire levels, each harder to complete and requiring more materials than the last. Reaching levels 3, 4, 5, and 6 rewards the player with badges. Higher levels provide better resistance to rain, snow, and blizzards, which can otherwise weaken or extinguish the fire. The final level is the most durable against harsh weather.
Upon Burning Out
When the Campfire’s fuel reaches zero, it goes out—removing the safe zone and leaving players vulnerable to The Deer until reignited. Additionally, the map becomes inaccessible: the Campfire icon disappears, and navigation becomes difficult.
If the Campfire extinguishes at night (except on Day 1), The Deer spawns in its “hungry” form, posing a greater threat. Health regeneration also stops entirely until the fire is relit.
The Map
The Campfire is directly tied to map exploration. Each upgrade expands the visible and explorable area. A Level 6 Campfire reveals the entire map, offers the longest burn time, and has the highest resistance to rain. However, even at max level, it still requires frequent refueling.
Weather
The game’s dynamic weather system impacts Campfire performance and survival difficulty. Higher Campfire levels reduce weather effects, but certain conditions can still drain fuel rapidly. There are four weather types:
- Rainy: A common weather type that greatly increases burnout rate. Trees cut during rain drop wet logs, which cannot be used as direct fuel but can be processed into biofuel or dried using Wood Rain Storage. Rain becomes more frequent as the game progresses and can begin after Day 5 (without multipliers).
- Rain and Thunder: A rare weather type with all effects of rain, plus occasional lightning strikes that deal damage. Players are advised to craft a Lightning Rod for protection. This weather appears after Day 10 (without multipliers).
- Snow: Reduces visibility and increases burnout rate similar to rain.
- Blizzard: The rarest and most dangerous weather condition. It slows movement, lowers temperature, accelerates burnout, and pushes players around due to strong winds. Blizzards grow more frequent as the game progresses.
The Campfire is your ultimate lifeline—keep it fueled, protected, and upgraded to survive the night, withstand the weather, and unlock the full world around you.
Campfire Level
The Campfire level can be upgraded by filling the Campfire Bar to 100% using flammable materials such as wood or coal. However, the more players there are in the party at the start, the more difficult it becomes to keep the Campfire fueled and reach the next level.

- Level 2
- Level 3
- Level 4
- Level 5
- Level 6

Level 1
Tier 1 has no decorations and consists only of basic logs arranged for the initial fire setup. To ignite it, simply drop flammable materials such as wood or coal onto the Campfire.
Level 2 Campfire Requirements:
- 6 Logs to upgrade the Campfire
- Various additional materials (depending on availability or progression)

Level 2
Tier 2 features three log benches placed around the Campfire, giving it a more structured and settled appearance.
Level 3 Campfire Requirements:
- 11 Logs to upgrade the Campfire
- 7+ Coal to upgrade the Campfire
- 2+ Fuel Canisters to upgrade the Campfire
- Various additional materials (depending on progression)

Level 3
Tier 3 introduces six rocks placed around the fire, forming a solid border and giving the Campfire a more fortified appearance.
Level 4 Campfire Requirements:
- 50–75+ Logs to upgrade the Campfire
- 23+ Coal to upgrade the Campfire
- 9–12+ Fuel Canisters to upgrade the Campfire
- Various additional materials (depending on progression)
With Biofuel Processor:
- 30+ Biofuel to upgrade the Campfire

Level 4
Tier 4 features twelve rocks surrounding the fire, doubling the border size from the previous level and giving the Campfire a stronger, more refined structure.
Level 5 Campfire Requirements:
- 70–120+ Logs to upgrade the Campfire
- 45+ Coal to upgrade the Campfire
- 19–25+ Fuel Canisters to upgrade the Campfire
- 4+ Oil Barrels to upgrade the Campfire
- Various additional materials (depending on progression)
With Biofuel Processor:
- 40–60+ Biofuel to upgrade the Campfire

Level 5
Tier 5 introduces a stone base built around the Campfire, giving it a fortified and permanent appearance, symbolizing significant progress in survival and construction.
Level 6 Campfire Requirements:
- 275–350+ Logs to upgrade the Campfire
- 170+ Coal to upgrade the Campfire
- 35+ Fuel Canisters to upgrade the Campfire
- 8+ Oil Barrels to upgrade the Campfire
- Various additional materials (depending on progression)
With Biofuel Processor:
- 80+ Biofuel to upgrade the Campfire

Level 6
Tier 6 features a larger stone base with additional logs stacked on the Campfire, giving it a grand and fortified appearance. The benches are slightly farther from the fire, creating a wider safe zone. Compared to previous upgrades, this level is significantly more resistant to rain and snow, making it the most durable and long-lasting version of the Campfire.
